Going to Somewhere, Australia

Hello Big Wide World!

There has been much in the works the last couple of months. As I wrote in my last blog I quit my job, and before I had gotten that job Luke had been laid off from his.

So, here we have been, jobless 20 somethings living with the in-laws. Doesn't it just sound so icky? But, and there is a but, it was for a reason. Before Luke and I came here there were some things on our heart, like traveling around Australia and learning about it through serving and working. It all sounded quite vague in my mind that longs for categorical and structured answers. Luke is not so much this way, when he feels God is leading in some way, he can step out and trust God for the future. This kind of freaks me out. Thereby explains about a week of time after I finished the job at Salvation Army, it was a Jonah whinging type moment where life didn't make sense and I was angry that I was jobless, that we were so not normal for people our age, and that we weren't exactly sure what this whole "traveling" thing was all about. It's nice that God isn't like us. That a child like tantrum doesn't make him bring out his belt. But it did make me hard to see the good in the challenges, and even in the last few months, the freedom that can happen when you leave your future to Him. I was given a loving wake up call to the time now. It wasn't a big emotional experience, just a time in prayer and listening to music. I love that our relationship with Him can be that simple.

Anyway, since this, we had really been praying about what step to take next. Would we enter into an already established ministry that would have structure provided? Should we go somewhere and create that structure for ourselves? Do we move and get jobs and see what we can plug into? These were all considered possibilities (and still are, for future cities and towns.)

We are hoping to gain a greater understanding of this country; the outback, the cities, its history, its people. Why? Because we feel like God wants us to. The why isn't even clear to us at times, but faith asks us to walk past that on occasion.

This isn't going to be a vacation around the country, I just want to share that right now. We want to be intentional. If you could join with us in prayer, for hearts and minds willing to serve. Something that has been coming up the last few days has been the old high school phrase, "Get out of your comfort zone." And as cliche as I feel saying it, I know that is what I need to be willing to do.

Much love, luke and danielle
